Mesquite ISD has a goal of growing on-level readers by third grade, since they believe that reading opens the door for all other learning opportunities and success in life.
Mesquite ISD reached out to e2L in the fall of 2015 to partner with the district on their literacy initiative. The district didn’t wait until standardized test scores came out in 2016 to start the process of designing a learning framework aligned to best practices and incorporating literacy components. The engage2learn team facilitated the district design team comprised of teachers, literacy specialist, principals, and district leaders as they collaboratively designed and planned the implementation of the MISD Literacy Framework and articulated the elements of an innovative culture that will become hallmarks of Mesquite ISD learning experiences to impact student literacy. This locally-designed framework will serve as a guide for teachers as they facilitate acquisition of high yield strategies and literacy best practices. The district also partnered with e2L to facilitate a campus design process, giving campuses the freedom within The Literacy Framework to create their own plans and success criteria for ensuring that their students are reading at grade level by the time they are in third grade. In order to ensure that the campus principals and teachers have the support to reach their success criteria, e2L coaches are providing coaching for principals, literacy specialists, and teachers throughout the school year.
