Harlingen ISD

Context

Harlingen CISD partnered with e2L in 2012 to involve the community in developing the Transforming Learning for Global Achievement learning framework, which now serves as a tool for leadership at all levels to determine systems, programs, initiatives, resources, funding, staffing, technology, and learning environments. This framework ensures students are ready for a lifetime of success. e2L also trained and coached teachers in the framework and in digital classroom best practices.

Implementation

Transforming Learning for Global Achievement was developed as a result of the Designing Transformation process after over five months of information-gathering from more than 800 individuals. These HCISD stakeholders included staff members, students, parents, and community members.

e2L facilitated a series of meetings, focus groups, and surveys for these stakeholders. e2L also facilitated a Design Team, which led to a shared vision and mission and five goals with specific result statements for achieving those goals to ensure all HCISD students had the skills to be Future Ready.

Focusing on the Collaborative Cohort model and Executive Training and Coaching, e2L facilitated campus redesigns in Harlingen CISD. As part of this work, all tenth-grade teachers were trained during the 2014 – 2015 school year, continuing through the 2016-2017 school year.

Coaching continues to be embedded as part of the redesign process to ensure sustainability. e2L trained and coached executive team members on a Coaches Academy team who had been implementing the framework in select classrooms across the district to build internal capacity.

Results

Due to this community-wide effort that included all stakeholders, HCISD’s Board of Trustees was awarded the 2015 HEB Excellence in Education School Board award. HEB cited that their work to advance their schools as a community was impressive and deserving of the award.
