What Is the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)?
The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) was created by the Texas Legislature to provide a way for high-performing teachers to earn six-figure salaries and for traditionally hard-to-staff schools to attract, nurture, and retain highly effective teachers.
Following a submission and approval process with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), teachers within approved districts are eligible to earn one of three designations – Recognized, Exemplary, and Master – and receive additional pay relative to their designation.
In order to determine which teachers are eligible for one of the designations, districts are required to develop a TEA-approved local designation system (LDS) that includes (but is not limited to):
- Teacher observation based on T-TESS
- Student growth measures
- Student, staff, community, and stakeholder surveys
