The evidence · Research & validation

The research behind every diagnostic.

An assessment is only as good as the research behind it. Each of engage2learn’s diagnostics comes from a named source: Harvard and the Gates Foundation, Rutgers and Arizona State University, and Jim Knight’s research. Here is what each one rests on.

Scroll, and each instrument’s research arrives in turn, then all three stand side by side.

Harvard and the Gates Foundation

The Tripod 7Cs Assessment

  • First fielded in 2001 by Dr. Ronald Ferguson at Harvard, and selected by the Gates Foundation for the three-year MET study.
  • Validated in the MET study across 3,000+ teachers and 250,000 classrooms; a study described as one of the largest and most influential studies of classroom instruction in the United States.
  • Reliably predicts improvements in student achievement, engagement, motivation and academic mindsets (Gates Foundation MET Project validation).
  • The most formally validated coaching diagnostic.
Rutgers and Arizona State University

Coaching Effectiveness Assessment

  • Rests on 10 years of peer-reviewed research and five large-scale studies, from Rutgers and Arizona State University.
  • Dr. Linda Reddy, Associate Dean of Research at Rutgers University and founder of ReadyCoach, is engage2learn’s research partner.
  • Measures instructional coaches, and the leaders who coach, against six essential coaching actions.
Jim Knight’s research, since 1996

Coaching System Assessment

  • Jim Knight’s instructional coaching research began in 1996.
  • Research with over 150,000 instructional coaches, distilled into the seven success factors the assessment measures.
  • Over 150,000 instructional coaches have been trained through Jim Knight and the Instructional Coaching Group.

And the Data Triangle: its survey items are psychometrically tested, so the reads from students, staff and families are trustworthy and stable. About the Data Triangle.

Then the coaching

In an independent study by LXD Research & Consulting, students of teachers who mastered four or more coached practices were significantly more likely to meet their math and reading growth targets.

82%
more K–5 students met their math growth targets
58%
more K–5 students met their reading growth targets
A research partner

Why a Rutgers researcher partnered with engage2learn.

engage2learn is the only partner offering both validated diagnostic assessments and coaching with public ESSA evidence.

See the ESSA evidence.

engage2learn was the only coaching organization we found that was already aligned to our research. We know the experts at engage2learn will be able to scale the impact of our validated assessment data insights and provide measurable results for schools.
