Who we serve · Literacy

Readers by third grade, and readers after it.

Reading results move when instruction changes in classrooms. engage2learn diagnoses the classroom, strengthens the curriculum you already own, and coaches all five pillars of reading, from kindergarten into high school.

Follow one reader

Third grade is a milestone, and reading instruction keeps going past it.

Scroll to follow a reader from kindergarten to graduation. The work is different in each stretch, and it doesn’t stop when the early grades end.

  1. Learning to readGrades K–3

    All five pillars, taught explicitly.

Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, through systematic instruction in every early-grade classroom.

  2. Reading to learnGrades 4–8

    Reading in every subject.

Vocabulary and comprehension carried into science and social studies, with tiered support for students who need more.

  3. Reading to go furtherGrades 9–12

Adolescent literacy that builds on what you have.

Support for secondary schools that strengthens the reading programs already in use.

From the outcome to the skill behind it

Five rungs down, from reading scores to the five pillars.

Scroll down the ladder: from the outcome you see to what produces it, and back up to how you’ll know it moved.

  1. The outcome you see

Reading scores that haven’t moved, even with new materials.

The district bought strong materials and trained everyone on them. Third-grade reading is still where it was, and older students who can’t read well are still in every class.

  2. What the diagnosis looks at

What reading instruction looks like, classroom by classroom.

Every engagement opens with a diagnostic meeting and a walk through your schools. The Tripod 7Cs Assessment adds what students say about the teaching they experience.

  3. The plan

    Your curriculum, used well.

The work strengthens the materials you already own rather than replacing them, with goals set together and the data read along the way.

  4. The coaching

All five pillars, in real classrooms.

Generation Ready Literacy Upskilling works alongside teachers on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, with grade-level workshops and a track that develops your own literacy coaches. HQIM Implementation supports teachers on their materials.

  5. How you’ll know it moved

    Practice and reading, read together.

Coaching and walkthroughs are logged in GroweLab, so you can see whether instruction is changing before the spring scores arrive.

engage2learn’s coaching carries ESSA Tier 2 / Tier 3 evidence.

FAQ

Questions leaders ask.

Do we have to change our curriculum?

No. The work strengthens the curriculum you already own, so teachers deepen how they use the materials the district paid for rather than starting over with new ones.

What does literacy coaching cover?

Literacy coaching covers all five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. It is grounded in the Science of Reading, runs from kindergarten into adolescent literacy, and includes grade-level workshops and coaching for your own literacy coaches.

How do we know teachers are changing practice?

Coaching and walkthroughs are logged in GroweLab as they happen. You see which practices are changing in which classrooms before the spring scores arrive, and students’ answers on the Tripod 7Cs Assessment show what they experience.

What about students past third grade who still struggle to read?

The work continues past the early grades. Adolescent literacy support builds on the programs your secondary schools already use, so older students get reading instruction in every class, not just in intervention.
