Step 03 of the cycle · Coach

Performance ImprovementCoaching on the skills the assessment named, measured this year.

Most professional learning is counted in sign-in sheets and hours. Our coaches are former district practitioners who work beside your teachers and leaders inside your schools on exactly the skills the diagnosis named, and GroweLab tracks classroom practice as it improves.

Counted vs measured

The same year of coaching, two ways to report it.

Scroll to watch a sign-in sheet become what a board needs to see: whether the skill the assessment named is growing, school by school.

  1. Counted

A workshop was full. Did teaching change?

Most professional learning ends with a sign-in sheet: attendance, hours, a certificate. Teaching doesn’t change because a room was full. Hours tell a board what was delivered. They can’t show whether a skill grew.

  2. Measured

One skill, the one the assessment named.

Our coaches work on exactly the skill your diagnosis pointed to, beside the teacher, in the classroom. GroweLab records each coaching cycle and walkthrough, so the skill’s growth line moves during the year, as practice changes.

  3. In every school

A line for every school, this year.

Leaders see which skills are moving in which schools while there is still time to act, and the coaching goes where the lines are flat. Every line is classroom practice, tracked as it improves.

Who coaches

People who have done the job, beside the people doing it now.

  • Former district practitioners

Teachers, principals and district leaders who have carried the work you are asking your educators to carry.

  • State-certified, with leadership experience

Coaches with school and district leadership behind them, so they coach the principal as well as the teacher.

  • Inside your schools

Beside your teachers and leaders, in their classrooms and their PLCs, on the skills the assessment named. Bilingual coaches are available.

  • Partners, not evaluators

Coaching data opens a conversation about growth, and it is used for coaching alone.

FAQ

Questions leaders ask.

How is engage2learn coaching different from training counted in hours?

engage2learn coaching is aimed at the specific educator skills an assessment named and measured by whether those skills grow. Coaches work beside teachers and leaders in their own schools, and GroweLab records the growth as practice changes, so a district reports what changed rather than how many hours were delivered.

Who are the coaches, and what experience do they have?

engage2learn coaches are former district practitioners: teachers, principals and district leaders, state-certified, with school and district leadership experience. Bilingual coaches are available.

What evidence stands behind the coaching?

engage2learn’s coaching carries ESSA Tier 2 / Tier 3 evidence. In first-year partner results, students of engage2learn-coached teachers showed 2x growth in math and science scores, multilingual learner proficiency improved 40%, and teacher retention was 99% among 1,440+ coached teachers.

How do we know the coaching is working this year?

Every coaching cycle and walkthrough is recorded in GroweLab against the skills the assessment named. Leaders see growth by skill and by school during the year, not only in an end-of-year report, and can move coaching to where progress is slow.

Which coaching offering should we start with?

Start with what the assessment found, or the question you are asking. A new materials adoption points to HQIM Implementation; principals who need a roadmap point to Leadership Skill Development; coaches who were promoted without preparation point to the Coaches Academy; flat reading or math results point to Generation Ready Literacy or Math Upskilling; and a school under an improvement plan points to School Improvement.

Do we have to start with an assessment, or run every step with engage2learn?

No. A district can start at any step of the cycle: an assessment, a plan, coaching, or the Network and its events. Many partners run one or two steps with engage2learn and the rest on their own, and add steps as their questions change.

Is coaching data used to evaluate teachers?

No. Coaching data is kept for coaching: it opens a conversation about growth between a teacher and a coach and is not used as an evaluation score.
