Success story · Dallas ISD · Texas

Instruction drove construction, and school leaders grew with it.

Dallas ISD planned $100 million in technology bond money around a vision for learning its community designed with engage2learn, then turned to engage2learn coaching to strengthen school leadership.

Through innovative coaching practices and strategic guidance, engage2learn has strengthened campus leadership capacity and contributed to measurable gains in overall student academic achievement.

Chapter 01 · Before

A bond to spend, and a rule to spend it by

Dallas ISD needed a master plan for its facilities and a plan for $100 million in technology bond money. The district’s rule was that instruction would drive construction: decide how students should learn first, then build and buy for it.

Chapter 02 · What we did

The community designed the vision; the plan followed it

Working alongside PBK architects, engage2learn ran a three-step process: engage the community, design a vision for learning, then write a technology and facilities plan aligned to that vision.

Summits, focus groups and district committees brought in teachers, families, school leaders, community members and several student panels. A design team met over several months to write the Dallas ISD Learning by Design Framework and its design principles, and a readiness assessment against a rubric gave each school its own facility and technology plan, rolled out over three years.

The work then moved into coaching: engage2learn coaches worked with the district’s school improvement leaders and principals, and Dallas ISD leaders use GroweLab to see the data behind it.

Chapter 03 · What changed

One vision, every school, and stronger school leadership

A bond plan built from a shared vision for learning rather than a purchasing list, with a plan for every school. In school improvement, the district’s own executive director credits the coaching with stronger school leadership and measurable gains in student achievement.
