Success story · Channelview ISD · Texas

From an ELA framework on paper to Tier 1 instruction in every K-5 classroom.

Channelview ISD designed an ELA instructional framework with engage2learn, then kept the same partner as it moved from design to execution: coaching K-5 teachers and school leaders until the district owned the work.

Their approach emphasizes capacity-building rather than compliance. They work alongside our leaders and teachers to ensure the systems we are building are sustainable and owned internally.

Chapter 01 · Before

Strong intentions, no shared picture of ELA instruction

Channelview ISD wanted English language arts instruction that looked the same in its expectations from one classroom and one grade to the next, aligned to the district’s strategic needs and priorities, and a way for school leaders to know whether it was happening.

Chapter 02 · What we did

Design, then execution, with one partner

First, design: structured planning sessions and facilitated meetings produced an ELA Instructional Framework tailored to Channelview ISD, defining the essential components of effective ELA instruction, consistent routines and expectations, and vertical alignment across grade levels.

Then execution. engage2learn worked with K-5 teachers on instructional strategies grounded in research to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, and with school leaders on implementing the framework, and kept professional learning, instructional expectations and accountability goals pointed the same way.

Chapter 03 · What changed

A framework school leaders can monitor, and systems the district owns

School leaders now have the tools to guide implementation and monitor fidelity to a framework their district wrote. In the deputy superintendent’s words, the systems are being built to be sustained and owned internally.

Chapter 04 · In their words

In their words.

“Engage2learn also partnered with us to design an ELA Instructional Framework tailored specifically to Channelview ISD. This work involved structured planning sessions, facilitated meetings, research-based strategies, and alignment with our district’s strategic needs and priorities. The outcome was a clearly articulated framework that defines essential components of effective ELA instruction, establishes consistent instructional routines and expectations, supports vertical alignment across grade levels, and provides campus leaders with tools to guide implementation and monitor fidelity.”
