Who we serve · Building a Coaching Program

A coaching program that’s built to work, and proves it.

Coaches hired, a model chosen, and practice that still varies from room to room. engage2learn assesses the coaching system against Jim Knight’s Seven Success Factors, designs it with your leaders, works beside your coaches, measures the coaching, and connects your coaches to peers doing the same work.

From the outcome to the skill behind it

Five rungs down, from uneven coaching to a system that works.

Scroll down the ladder: from the outcome you see to the skill behind it, and back up to how you’ll know it moved.

  1. The outcome you see

Coaches in every school, and practice that still varies.

The district hired coaches and chose a model. Some coaches move teachers; others are pulled into duties. Nobody can say what the program is producing.

  2. What the diagnosis looks at

The coaching system, factor by factor.

The Coaching System Assessment assesses the program against the Seven Success Factors, distilled from Jim Knight’s 30 years of research with over 150,000 instructional coaches.

  3. The plan

A system designed around what the assessment found.

Coaching System Design builds each weak factor: roles, time, the coaching process, data and the support leaders give.

  4. The coaching

    Coaches growing in one model.

The Coaches Academy works with your coaches on the Impact Cycle and the Partnership Principles, inside real coaching cycles.

  5. How you’ll know it moved

    The coaching itself, measured.

The Coaching Effectiveness Assessment shows how well the coaching is working, coach by coach, against a research-validated baseline.

The research base

Built on decades of coaching research.

30
years of Jim Knight’s instructional coaching research, begun in 1996
150,000+

10
years of peer-reviewed research and five large-scale studies (Rutgers, ASU) behind the Coaching Effectiveness Assessment

Jim Knight is widely regarded as the founding father of instructional coaching.

From our research partner

Coaching built to be measured.

Dr. Reddy’s research is the base of the Coaching Effectiveness Assessment, the stop on the route where a program proves what its coaching is doing.

engage2learn was the only coaching organization we found that was already aligned to our research. We know the experts at engage2learn will be able to scale the impact of our validated assessment data insights and provide measurable results for schools.

FAQ

Questions leaders ask.

Where should a district start if a coaching program exists but practice is not changing?

Start with the Coaching System Assessment. It assesses the program against the Seven Success Factors and shows which ones are holding it back, so the work aims at the system rather than at individual coaches.

Do we need the assessment before the design?

It is the recommended start, because design then builds exactly the factors the assessment found weak. A district without an assessment can still begin design, which then starts from a review of the same seven factors.

How do we prove the coaching works?

The Coaching Effectiveness Assessment measures how well the coaching itself is working, coach by coach. It rests on ten years of peer-reviewed research and five large-scale studies from Rutgers and ASU, and coaching activity is recorded in GroweLab as it happens.

What does the Network add?

The Jim Knight Impact Network keeps coaches and the leaders who support them learning with peers after the build, in monthly workshops and role-specific collaboratives, so the program keeps improving rather than settling.
