Success story · Tempe Elementary School District No. 3 · Arizona

A strategic design built for one community.

Tempe Elementary School District No. 3 built a strategic design with engage2learn that its superintendent calls individualized for the district community, then put GroweLab to work.

It wasn’t cookie-cutter. It was individualized for each district community, and that’s what we needed. We wanted something that was just for us.

Chapter 01 · Before

A district that wanted a plan of its own

Tempe Elementary School District No. 3 was clear about what it did not want: a plan that could have been written for any district. Its superintendent wanted a strategy individualized for the district’s own community, something that was, in his words, "just for us."

Chapter 02 · What we did

Strategic Design, built from the community out

engage2learn ran its Strategic Design process with the district: engage the community, design a shared vision for learning, plan with measures and owners, then lead the work. The process starts with the people the plan will serve (students, staff and families) rather than with a template.

The district also works in GroweLab, where professional learning, walkthroughs and coaching sit in one place rather than in a binder.

Chapter 03 · What changed

A plan the superintendent calls theirs

The measure the superintendent chose was fit: a strategic design individualized for the district community, "and that’s what we needed." On the platform side, a Tempe director describes GroweLab as easy to use and points to its professional development resource library as the difference.

Chapter 04 · In their words

In their words.

“It wasn’t cookie-cutter. It was individualized for each district community, and that’s what we needed. We wanted something that was just for us.”

Dr. James Driscoll, Superintendent, Tempe Elementary School District No. 3

“It is easy and intuitive to use...GroweLab different from other PD Management platforms? It has a professional development resource library.”
