Success story · Short Elementary School, Arlington ISD · Texas

School transformation in the time of COVID.

Rated Improvement Required heading into 2018-2019, Short Elementary in Arlington ISD turned to engage2learn coaching to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, and its student achievement now exceeds pre-COVID data.

Our core issue was lack of effective Tier I instruction, and there was a lot that needed to take place on campus. I felt like partnering with e2L would be beneficial for my teachers as we were shoring up that instruction because focusing on best practices is what e2L was bringing to the table. That made my decision very easy.

Chapter 01 · Before

An Improvement Required rating and a new principal

Short Elementary School received an Improvement Required rating from the state heading into the 2018-2019 school year. Its principal, Katina Martinez, new to the school at the time, and her team looked for the right solution, and after a first year without the results they hoped for, the district turned to engage2learn.

Chapter 02 · What we did

Coaching inside the school on Tier 1 best practices

The principal named the core issue as Tier 1 instruction. engage2learn coaches worked inside the school with its teachers, during the school day, on the instructional best practices that strengthen everyday teaching, and the staff committed to their own growth.

Chapter 03 · What changed

Achievement above pre-COVID levels

While many public schools were still working to recover from disrupted learning, Short Elementary’s student achievement rose past its pre-COVID data.
